I wonder what will replace it?

Hawaiian Electric to shut down Downtown Honolulu power plant

The Hawaiian Electric Cos. said Monday that it is shutting down its Downtown Honolulu power plant, as well as others on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island as part of its plan to meet future electricity needs, which it recently submitted to the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.

The companies, which include Hawaiian Electric Co., Maui Electric Co. and Hawaii Electric Light Co., plan to deactivate a total of 226 megawatts or more than 14 percent of utility-owned generation by 2016, including its Downtown Honolulu plant and two of four units at Maui’s Kahului Power Plant by 2014, as well as two generators at Oahu’s Waiau Power Plant by 2016.
