Midway through the second half of the Punahou and ‘Iolani girls soccer game last Friday, Buffanblu forward Lahaina Zoller began hopping around awkwardly, with her shoe at a strange angle.
Somehow, during a tackle, the junior’s shoe broke and the cleats ended up on the top of her shoe instead of the bottom. It didn’t stop Zoller, as she tried to continue playing briefly before calling for a substitution to change her shoes.
"Running was kind of slippery," Zoller said after the game.
It was about all that slowed her down that day, as Zoller scored both the Buffanblu goals in a 2-2 tie to help the defending state champions to a 2-0-1 Interscholastic League of Honolulu record. Zoller and Allyson Holtz share the team lead with five goals apiece, tops in the ILH.
