Pet peeve – silicon NOT silicone

In a story from KGMB Channel 9 news Solar Companies Energized over New Law about the photovoltaic system, the following quote:

"This is a classic silicone photovoltaic system," said Joe Saturnia, Island Pacific Energy President, as he walks beside the system his company installed at Punahou School. [emphasis mine]

Silicon! Silicon!  Silicone is soft rubbery stuff.  Silicon is the stuff that is in all of our electronics.  The speaker (he IS the president of Island Pacific Energy) probably knows the difference, so I’ll attribute the error to the writer.

One Response to Pet peeve – silicon NOT silicone

  1. Grace Saturnia says:

Hey Steven, I think Joe was interviewed and quoted… He didn’t write the quote… But I’ll make sure Joe knows the difference between silicon and silicone… thanks for pointing that out, though…
