Whoa…another restaurant closing at Ward Center. Compadres closed last year and Brew Moon closed a couple of weeks ago.
E&O Trading to close at Ward Centre
This means that there’s only one left on the second floor.

As seen on Honolulu Star Bulletin website tonight (2/24/09):
Now, I *am* biased, but I do think Obama’s shaka is a little more genuine than Lingle’s.

From Wired: Stinky Fermented Soy Goo Could Fight Alzheimer’s
MMMmmmmm…tasty!
Of course, I’m the kind of guy who just make a huge pot of tripe stew (which is just as tasty, if you ask me). If you want the recipe for the tripe, e-mail me at steve (at) 3155alani (dot) net.

Just to confirm for our mainland classmates that the eruption on the Big Island is still going:
According to the HVO, a lava delta collapsed at the Waikupanaha ocean entry. During the collapse, a piece of lava spatter landed about 170 meters/560 feet inland. You can see a hand-held GPS next to the spatter.
So…maybe getting hit by a rock that big might hurt. But considering this probably just a little bit HOT when it landed, it just might leave a mark…

Long shots lift No. 3 ‘Iolani over No. 7 Punahou, 49-45
Finding new scoring sources from beyond the 3-point arc, ‘Iolani rallied past Punahou, 49-45, last night in Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball action.
A crowd of about 800 at Punahou’s Hemmeter Fieldhouse watched the defending champion Raiders, ranked No. 3 in The Advertiser’s statewide Top 10 poll of coaches and media, finished the ILH season at 10-2. The defending state champ Buffanblu, ranked No. 7, fell to 5-5.

Punahou Carnival brings in record profits
"It takes about 4,000 volunteers to actually put on the carnival," said Lee Ann Ichimura, the Punahou Carnival Coordinator. "So we do recruitment with our junior class, actually take the lead role in putting on the carnival and parents and alumni come out to support and staff many of the booths."
The event raises anywhere from $400,000 to $500,000 for the school’s financial aid program and student activities. As far as actual dollar amount, final figures aren’t available, but early estimates show they’re about six percent ahead of the all-time record.
