October 2008

Rates for our 25th reunion have been posted.  Check out them out here.  Or just look at the tab at the top.  I believe that these rates are good for all of 2009 – so anytime you’re planning a trip home, give these guys a call.

Honolulu traffic congestion worst in nation despite drop in driving: Driving reduced across U.S.; L.A. rated as 2nd most congested city

…Honolulu’s traffic congestion remained the worst in the country, according to the annual report by INRIX, with Los Angeles in second place.

Honolulu’s travel time index, which is a ratio of peak period travel time to free flow travel time, dropped from 1.47 in 2007 to 1.36 this year, according to the report. That means, for example, that a trip that took 29.4 minutes last year now takes 27.2 minutes.

Hi guys – Steven Lee here.  I will be making some changes to the blog in the coming weeks.  Essentially, I’ll be taking down the pages for the 2008 luau and replacing them with pages about our 25th reunion in 2009.  It will probably take me a couple of weeks to get this done, but soon, you should be seeing some updated info.

All-around Keanini a big hit in Punahou’s lineup

In an Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls volleyball season that began with several "heavy hitters" lost to graduation, Punahou senior Anuhea Keanini has emerged as the premier "go-to" player so far.

Keanini, a 5-foot-6 setter/outside hitter, had 14 kills and 12 digs in a 21-25, 25-16, 26-24 victory at Kamehameha on Oct. 14 to help the Buffanblu win the ILH’s first- round title and automatic state tournament berth that goes with it.

Top guns

Sacred Hearts shooter Haunani Akana scored an aggregate 541 points to once again edge rival Meilin Jia-Richards (538) of Punahou to win the title. Punahou’s Lauren Riford (535) and Sacred Hearts’ Caitlin Mori (530) placed third and fourth, respectively.

Punahou’s Alex Char dominated the boys competition, registering the highest scores in the prone, standing, and kneeling positions for an aggregate score of 535. Teammates Bert Weeks (508) and Chris Han (507) placed second and third, respectively, followed by Maryknoll’s Chad Asato (500).

28am. A robust, ash-rich mushroom cloud is ejected, and followed by pulses of hot, glowing gas and particles. The explosion deposited a field of fist-size ejecta around the crater rim.

From Time magazine:

When Barack Obama was 6 years old, he was the only foreign child in his neighborhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. He didn’t know the kids, didn’t speak the language. At first the locals were a little freaked out, says Zulfin Adi, 47, who as a kid lived a block from Obama. "He was so much bigger than the rest of us." So they decided to haze him. One day a group of children ambushed him, carried him to the local watering hole and threw him in. They had no idea if he could swim. But when Obama came to the surface, he was laughing. He could have broken free and crushed them anytime he wanted, but it was much better to play it cool, ride it out and make friends with his adversaries.

Well, ok.  It wasn’t the lily pond, but it sure sounds like it.
