And no, I’m not thinking of Michele Wie.  From the Advertiser:

Punahou freshman Cyd Okino shot a 9-over 81 today for two-day total of 159 to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls golf championshsip at Waialae.

Punahou senior Alex Ching shot a 3-over 75 for a two-round total of 139 to win the boys title.

Ching shot a first-round 64 last week at Oahu Country Club. Okino shot a 78 last week.

Walmart pulls baby bottles made with BPA.  Playtex will stop using BPA…eventually (by year end).  Nalgene will stop using BPA…a little bit sooner (“in a few months”).  So, it seems that this is a fast moving story.

So what the heck is the deal with BPA?  Read this from the National Geographic’s green guide and this from Salon.com.  The opposing view from the BPA industry

From the PBN: Hawaii, U.S. gas prices set new records

The price of a gallon of gas hit record highs nationwide and in Hawaii Friday.

The statewide average price for unleaded is $3.74, 5 cents more than last week, according to AAA.

From the Honolulu Magazine:

The cacao is grown pesticide free. “It’s not organic because we use inorganic fertilizers,” he notes. “But it could grow organically. We’re not putting anything on the trees; we haven’t found any pests.” Hawaii is at the very edge of the cacao-growing zone; 80 to 90 percent of it is grown within 10 degrees of the Equator, while Oahu is twice as far away. Some believe that the fluctuation in temperature to which the trees are exposed contributes to the flavor characteristics, just as a chilly morning in California helps grapes make better wine.

The resulting chocolate is known to be full-bodied, with flavor notes of raspberries, cherries, red wine and dried fruit. Alan Wong is a big supporter and you can find the chocolate in desserts at his restaurant. You can also buy it at the Dole Plantation Store under the Dole brand name. It’s also contained in some products from local company Malie Kai Chocolates.

“It’s a higher end chocolate,” says Conway. “It could be considered the rarest chocolate in the world.”

Another reason to come home and help with the luau – AFTERWARDS you can go out and get some really great locally grown chocolate.

Punahou has had a challenging year.  But they’re in the post-season.

On a story posted by the Star Bulletin: Obama recalls hoop dreams

An avid basketball player even on the campaign trail, Obama was a member of Punahou’s championship high school basketball team in 1979.

He said his strength then wasn’t his jump shot, but getting around defenders. “My actual talent was in my first step,” he said. “I could get to the rim on anybody.”

What would a scouting report say about his skills today?

“Well, I have held up reasonably well as a 46-year-old,” Obama said. “So, I’m still reasonably quick for my age. I would say my peers would have trouble guarding me tight outside. I’d go by them.”
