October 2007

Steve Lee here again. Thought you might want to see who’s running the show. Or at least those that showed up (we had a few absentees).

I don’t have all the names in order (as to protect the innocent), but those present were: Mike Lyum, Patti Horii Oshiro, Chandra Hanlin Peters, Debbie Sharkey, Wayne Goo, Doug Rigg, Camille Masutomi, Grace Leong Saturnia, Clayton Kamiya, Colin Itagaki, Pam Yee, Steve Lee, Malia May Lageman, Trina Bowman Johnson, and Kim Koike.

Hiya, Steven Lee here again.

Regular users might notice that the site’s look has changed. With the winter months approaching, I get home just as the sun is setting, so I wanted to brighten things up. I’ve also turned on the comments section. This means that you don’t have to create an account to leave a comment. We’ll see how that works out. Hopefully, some of you will leave some comments.

First, I’ll send my prayers out to those of our classmates who had to evacuate during the recent San Diego/Los Angles wild fires. I hope you and your families are safe.

Anyway, back to happier thoughts. I thought I’d start writing about what luau is all about so you guys have an idea of what happens at luau. I’ll start with the Saturday morning of Luau.

Starting at about 7:30 AM at the cafeteria, we’ll have a team of volunteers preparing the food. This means putting poi, lomi salmon, and poke into small plastic serving cups. We might have to help cut the haupia and cake, so we might need you to bring a knife and cutting board. There’ll be plenty of time to chat and catch up with each other as the work is not that hard. We just need to be neat and precise. Meaning, don’t spill. And make sure that we get the portion sizes right. (more…)

Happy Halloween! Hi guys, Steven Lee here.

Just to remind all of our readers that our regular monthly meeting will be at 5:45 PM on Wednesday October 24th at the Alumni House. So, if you’d like to drop by and see what is going on, we’d love to see you. We’ll have some great snackies, soft drinks, beer, and wine.

As usual, if you’d like to get in contact with us, please call me at 808-780-6240 or e-mail me at steve (at) 3155alani (dot) net.

Steve Lee here (again)

We have just under 100 volunteers!  Whoo-hooo! But we need a bunch more, and I’d love to report that we’re over the 100 mark by Halloween.

So if you haven’t called or e-mailed yet, please please please get in contact with us.  And if you don’t THE GREAT PUMPKIN will be haunting you…along with Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and — of course — Charlie Brown.

But even if you can’t volunteer this year, we’d still love to hear from you because in 2009 we’ll be using our Luau contact list to contact you for our 25th Class Reunion.

Also, stay tuned…we should be posting our t-shirt design in the near future.  Everyone who volunteers will be getting one, so sign-up, work a shift, get a really neat t-shirt, and go to the post party (free food and beer)!  Sound like a plan?  Drop me an e-mail at steve (at) 3155alani (dot) net.

Cheers!

Hiya – Steve Lee here. I wanted to remind all of you to WRITE IT DOWN and save June 14, 2008 for the luau. Hmm.. write it down? Where did this come from?

Let me digress a bit. When I’m not blogging here or otherwise worrying about luau stuff, I work at First Hawaiian Bank with their retail investment arm. One of the hats that I wear is a system analyst, which is a nice way of saying “computer guy.” This mean I have to give new employees the usual speech about computer passwords and that they should NOT write any passwords down. So…I finish giving this speech to the New Guy. Then I hop on the ‘net to read this post: http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2007/10/09/from-the-mouth-of-babes-part-12398.aspx

The punch line is on the second to last paragraph.

Anyway, I trust that all of you know how to write, so please write the date down in your calendar. And don’t be afraid to write me or any of the other co-chairs either. You can reach me at: steve (at) 3155alani (dot) net.

Or call me at 808-780-6240. Gary Kondo did. And so can you.
